Colman Domingo, the acclaimed American actor and playwright, has officially been cast as the Cowardly Lion in Wicked: For Good, the upcoming sequel to the Broadway musical adaptation. The casting ends a weekend filled with online speculation about who would take on the iconic role.
The news was shared via the film’s official Instagram account, which featured a video of Domingo surrounded by plush lion toys. The video concludes with him saying, “See you in Oz.”
Director Jon M. Chu hinted at the announcement last Thursday, revealing that a major Hollywood talent would be voicing the beloved character.
Domingo will join a high-profile ensemble that already includes Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba.
