Maybe it’s just that time of the year – where anything and everything seems spookier than they’re meant to appear. After all, it is October. Soon, people will be sharing images and videos of themselves dressed up as the creepy, horrific creatures that both terrify and amuse us. But for some, it seems like Halloween has come early – in the form of an unexpected, supernatural guest in a music video.
Local singer and composer Ryan Deedat (formerly of the group RVL) released the music video for his fourth single. ‘Monalisa’. The song, with its reggaeton flair, was released in mid-September. However, music video of the song in particular, has captured Malaysian netizens after one unexpected question has both flustered and shocked Malaysians. A netizen popped up in the comment section of the music video and asked,
“Sorry, do you guys see a white figure in the back during the last scene where monalisa is pointing the pistol… Do you guys see it?”

Of course, being human and therefore naturally curious, everyone started looking for this “white figure”. In the video, at the 3:22 mark where ‘Monalisa’ is seen facing Deedat, there looks to be a white figure behind her.
Let’s take a closer look…
???!!!! Many are asking if the ‘pocong’ is real or a figment of our overactive imaginations – it could simply be a pillow draped over a ledge? For those who don’t know, a ‘pocong’ is the Malaysian/Indonesian equivalent of a shrouded ghost. ‘Pocongs’ are said to be the soul of dead people trapped in its shroud. What’s seen cannot be unseen ya’ll!
28-year-old Deedat himself was surprised to see the supernatural guest in his music video. In an IGTV video uploaded onto his Instagram account, Deedat divulged that despite watching the video over and over, they had not noticed the creepy figure.
“Indeed, we felt the creeps in the area but we did not care and refused to think negatively. We wanted to complete filming as quickly as we could, but did not expect the presence of uninvited creatures there.”
And while there are those that think that the mention of the figure may be a gimmick to lure viewers, Deedat believes that his latest single is making its own way through the music industry. Speaking to Fly, the talented singer clarifies:
“When I first got the song, it was called ‘Liar’ and I changed it to something more people-centric, something they can relate to and feel like they’re a part of. I want people to take note of the art – the direction that the music video took in order to deliver the metaphore that exists. With that, ‘Monalisa’ can promote itself through the creativity, the story and the narrative that exists and is created within the song. “
Watch the music video for the addictive song here and let us know what you think – a ghostly third wheel or simply the effects of an overactive imagination?
