It’s easy to think that survival horror games truly made their debut in the 32-bit era, when Resident Evil became the talk of the industry. But there were notable exceptions in the 8-bit and 16-bit era that preceded Resident Evil’s success.

One of these was 1989’s Sweet Home, a game that took JRPG mechanics and instead of having players on a quest to fight dragons, the game had players surviving the horrors of a haunted mansion instead.
