Researchers at the University of the Philippines Los Banos in Laguna province have been trekking day-in and day-out through thick rainforests, catching thousands of bats to extract DNA swabs before releasing them back into the wild.

The Japanese-funded research aims to make a simulation model that will help predict and prevent another pandemic similar to COVID-19.
