Malaysian actor Henry Golding “isn’t your average G.I.” as shown in the newest trailer for the upcoming action blockbuster, ‘Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins’.
In conjunction with the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards, the amazing team at Paramount Pictures have released a jaw-dropping look at the reboot for the ‘G.I. Joe’ franchise: with Henry Golding front and centre. The movie is said to follow Snake Eyes – one of the original and most popular members of the G.I. Joe Team – in his training with the Japanese clan called the Arashikage as well as his early battles. It will also likely show how he joined the Joes.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura promised that the movie will “answer some questions”, teasing: “You’ll learn who he is, where he came from.” The father of one can be seen doing complex stunts involving firearms, cars and his sword, “Morning Light.” We also catch glimpses of his costars Úrsula Corberó (‘Money Heist’) – who plays The Baroness – Samara Weaving (‘Ready or Not’) as Scarlett.
The reboot of the ‘G.I. Joe’ universe is helmed by director Robert Schwentke and sees the ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ star Henry Golding replacing Ray Park. Previous big-screen versions of the G.I. Joe universe came in the form of two movies: 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and 2013’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation. As neither movie performed particularly well in the box office (although, persona opinion: I loved them!) and as a result, have been greenlit by Paramount to start over from scratch. Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins drops on the 23rd of July though, so mark your calendars guys!
