Robin Williams’ Then 14-Year-Old Co-Star Revealed How The Actor Helped Her With Her Mental Health Issues

Not even time can dim the brightest lights.

Former actress Lisa Jakub has recently opened up about how the famous actor, who played her father in the beloved 1993 classic Mrs Doubtfire has helped her with her mental health struggles during filming.

“Robin (Williams) was everything that you would hope we would be,” Jakub said in a video interview. “And he was very open and honest with me about his issues with anxiety and depression. I was able to share with him that anxiety was something that I struggled with.”

She continued,

“And he would talk to me about mental health issues in a way that 14-year-olds aren’t usually used to adults being really open about those sorts of personal experiences with them.”

Jakub also recalled a moment when the Good Will Hunting actor stood up for her when she was expelled from high school for accruing too many absences while she was on set. The 42-year-old writer said that Williams took it upon himself to write to the school “asking them to please reconsider.”

Unfortunately, the situation did not pan out the way Williams hoped it would, but the gesture really moved Jakub.

“What I love about that story, and what I love about Robin, it’s just the fact that he would do that for someone,” she expressed. “That he would go out of his way. That he would take the time to realize that this would be important.”

She added,

“And even if it didn’t work, somebody needed to stand up. And he did that for me.”

However, Williams lost the battle to his own mental health struggles and was found hanging at his home in California. He had left a legacy, and his kind heart and extraordinary talent will be remembered by many.
