Once an ARMY, always an ARMY.
This is an adorable story, honestly. Brazilian lyricist and novelist, Paulo Coelho is best known for his international bestseller The Alchemist. Most recently, however, he’s been making headlines for being an ARMY (i.e. a member of the fandom that supports South Korean supergroup BTS). Coelho had voiced his support for the seven-member group after the bands latest English track, “Butter”, amassed over 100 million views in less than 24 hours.
Congrats @BTS_twt!!! Over 100.000.000 views in 24 hr!#BUTTER100M #ARMY ????

Unfortunately, in tweeting his support, Coelho revealed that he had started losing followers. Nevertheless, the 73-year-old writer said it wasn’t going to change his love for the boys.
I am losing a lot of followers because I posted a tweet congratulating @BTS_twt but this is the price to pay when you support people you admire.
The boys overcame so many difficult moments, prejudices, etc.

Upon realising that he shared their love for RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook, his fellow ARMYs
And for that, you will gain more! Thank you always for the support ??

Coelho even responded to one – who told him not to worry as he’d get support from the “huge” fandom – alluding to the fact that he couldn’t give a hoot about the issue.
I am not worried AT ALL. https://t.co/kK2nDDY97T

The 73-year-old had previously tweeted his support for BTS in 2020 when the boys broke numerous records with their album Map of the Soul: 7 , and were then the subject of trolling and hate. Coelho tweeted,
“Haters are confused admirers who want to be like you,”
Followed by a stream of purple hearts, a symbol often representative of the septuplet.

Since their debut in 2013, the Bangtan Boys have gained a massive, loyal fanbase due to their relatable music (with songs that address bullying, elitism, and mental health) and their humble demeanour.
