In as safe of an environment as possible, the award season has officially commenced with the Golden Globes. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are back to lead the show, in a live event streamed and filmed from different locations (Fey is hosting from the Rainbow Room in the Rockefeller Centre in New York City, and Poehler from the ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, where the awards are usually held).

Calling to attention the effect of the pandemic on the way that movies and TV shows have changed over the past year, Fey and Poehler joked about how to differentiate TV shows from movies:
“TV is the one that I watch five hours straight, but a movie is the one I don’t turn on because it’s two hours. I don’t want to be in front of my TV for two hours. I want to be in front of my TV for one hour, five times.”
They also echoed the call for more diversity at award shows. After all, when the Globes first announced the nominees up for awards, reactions were mixed. As pointed out time and time again, there was a lack of diversity amongst the nominees. But that didn’t stop talents like Daniel Kaluuya, the late Chadwick Boseman and Chinese film director from being included – and WINNING.
