Photos of migrant workers transported with a lorry have taken the internet by storm, causing mass fury among Malaysians.
The photos, originally shared on Facebook by Shahanim Mohamad Yusoff and then reshared on Twitter by @maliqueredzuan has Malaysians appalled with the way migrant workers are treated.
Tengah viral dekat fb. Tapi serious laa buat lagu ni, depa pun orang bukannya lembu atau ayam. Darah kita dengan depa berlain ka?? pic.twitter.com/cYmxkcDsDv

“Currently viral on Facebook. Seriously, doing it (transporting factory workers) like this? They’re humans too, not cows or chickens. Is our blood different from theirs?”

The photo shows a group of migrant workers cramped up like sardines in a tin can, being transported back to their hostel according to reports from the New Straits Times.
“The lorry was on its way back from the Kuala Muda PKD (District Health Office) to the hostel of a chicken processing factory in Sungai Lalang.”
“On inspection, we found 48 Covid-19 positive individuals wearing a quarantine wristband in the lorry,” Kuala Muda district police chief ACP Adzli Abu Shah said in a statement.
Netizens have voiced out their disappointment towards those responsible for the scene.

Student activist, Adam Adli has also expressed his disappointment upon finding out about the incident.
Bayangkan kalau bangsa kita yang memburuh di negeri orang, legal mahupun illegal, dilayan macam ini – apa respon kita?
Malaysia, we are better than this. pic.twitter.com/GAc1tSYPf0

“Imagine if our own race is working in someone else’s state, legal or illegal, being treated like this – what is our response? Malaysia, we are better than this.”
Meanwhile, a netizen attempted to justify the action by showing the report from media, with their tweet captioned, “Real story vs….”

Co-Founder of the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA), Amir Hadi responded to the tweet justifying his stance on the issue.
“I see a few people commenting with the photo below (media report), then writing ‘real story..'”
Nampak beberapa orang komen dengan gambar dibawah, kemudian tulis ‘real story..’
Real story apa?

“What real story? Because the employer did it, the photo becomes fake? Because the employer did it, we should close our eyes? It doesn’t matter who did it, this is reality and don’t let it repeat itself!”
The driver has since then been compounded for using his driver’s license for other reasons and the company is under investigation for action that can potentially cause the spread of harmful diseases.
