Who’s cutting onions…
The lockdowns – not just this recent one, but the various ones since March 2020 – have been taking a toll on Malaysian lives. Many have had to switch the way they would routinely live. A Malaysian recently took to Facebook to share her woes as a result of the pandemic. Twitter user @Kiridaren went on to share a screenshot of the comment, using the Facebook users story to highlight how, even if the country heals from the COVID-19 pandemic, the mental and physical toll of it may be greater than anticipated.
Anda mampu habiskan 6 bulan ini sampai negara pulih.
Namun, masa negara dah pulih, mungkin dah tiada ramai rakyat, dari segi mental atau fizikal. pic.twitter.com/LAXBW7HyAJ

“You can throw away 6 months for the recovery of this country. But once the country has recovered, there might not be as many people, in a mental and physical way.”
The comment itself denotes the harsh effects of the pandemic on her husband and herself.
“This is reality, happened to my husband. Since the start of the MCO, he was unemployed. Didn’t sleep for 4 days and 4 nights. I watch him pray up to 7 times without stopping, suddenly he cried. Suddenly, it was as if he got hysterical and called me a clone.”
She then went on to contact a nurse from a local clinic to seek advice; it got so bad that, at one point, she had to call for an ambulance as her husband had started to act in a harmful manner. Ultimately, her husband had to be sedated to induce calm.
“That was the day my husband became a psychiatric patient. To this day, not a single government authority has helped.”
She ended the comment by saying that she has to take care of four children, who are currently juggling online learning.
Many netizens shared heartwarming comments for the lady who posted the original comment.
Many people are getting affected due to pandemic and lockdown. Very sad situation. We cant help them all. We can check on our neighbors and families to see if we can provide small helps to make them feel better. ❤️?☀️

“This is why I’m not active on Twitter the past few weeks. It’s because of stories like this. The misery that Malaysians are facing; mentally, economically as well as death. I can’t read (all these stories) because I’d feel bad and guilty because I can’t help them all.”
Another netizen shared an update from the woman, sharing her bank account details.
Update from her. Sape2 nak tolong, boleh lah transfer or hulurkan bantuan :

These truly heartbreaking stories indicate the reality many Malaysians are facing. Fortunately, this lucky woman received traction from her Facebook comment. We hope she and many others receive the help that they need, thanks to our helpful Malaysian friends. #KitaJagaKita
