Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi has been ‘taken’ by the military


Myanmar’s de-facto leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Aung San Suu Kyi, has been detained by the country’s powerful military, a spokesman for the governing National League for Democracy (NLD) said on February 1, 2021.

This comes amid increasingly escalating tensions between the country’s civilian government and the military, the latter promising to abide by the constitution as recently as January 30, 2021, as concerns about a possible military coup started to brew.
