Shannen Doherty, an it-girl in the ’90s known for playing Brenda Walsh in Beverly Hills, 90210, and Prue Halliwell in Charmed, dies from breast cancer at 53 at her home in Malibu, California.
Ms. Doherty learned that she had breast cancer in 2015 and had been open about her struggle. Two years later, she announced that the cancer was in remission, but it returned in 2020. In June 2023, Ms. Doherty announced that the cancer had spread to her brain, and in November, it had spread to her bones.

But she continued to work and started a podcast that month.
“I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better,” she said. “I’m not done.”
Ms. Doherty also played Heather Duke in the cult-classic Heathers alongside Winona Ryder and Christian Slater.
