20 International Artists Pay Tribute To Gene Dietch, Late Illustrator of Tom & Jerry and Popeye

There was only one thing and one thing only that would get a kid excited about waking up early on a Saturday morning – the cartoons. Tom & Jerry and Popeye the Sailor, albeit arguably too violent for children, holds a special nostalgic place in the hearts of many.

Eugene Merrill Deitch, better known by his stage name Jane Deitch, was an American artist, illustrator, humorist craftsman, and filmmaker. He died unexpectedly on April 16 last year in his apartment in Prague’s Little Quarter neighbourhood.

Since the information about his death was received, craftsmen from everywhere in the world have been flooded the Internet with tributes.

The 95-year-old touched countless lives through his work and 20 artists have paid tribute to him via heartwarming illustrations.
