IT took writer-director Janus Victoria 11 years to make Diamonds in the Sand, a beautiful, tender film about Yoji, an isolated Japanese man who escapes to the vibrant Philippine capital Manila in an attempt to avoid what in Japan is known as a kodokushi (lonely death).
