Court completes reading 743 charges against ex-Astro staff

The charges were framed under Section 5(1) of the Computer Crimes Act 1997, which carries a maximum fine of RM100,000, up to seven years in jail, or both, upon conviction.
KUALA LUMPUR:

The sessions court here has completed reading a total of 743 charges of unauthorised data modification against a former Astro employee, four months after she was first brought to court.

Nora Idayu Jaafar, 48, claimed trial to the remaining 123 charges read out before judge Suhaila Haron this morning, bringing the total to 743 charges read out over the course of five proceedings since June.

Nora is accused of altering Astro’s customer management system to convert regular customer accounts into corporate accounts between 2013 and 2020 at the company’s office in Menara Icon on Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur.

She was charged under Section 5(1) of the Computer Crimes Act 1997, which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000, a maximum seven years’ jail, or both, upon conviction.
