The seventh instalment of the beloved Scream franchise takes us back to 1996 where it all began, where we saw Sidney Prescott kill off her attackers Billy Loomis and Stu Macher in the Macher home. Now turned into a museum, the residents of Woodsboro idolise Sidney’s trauma and hail her as a hero – when all she wanted was to live a quiet life with her family.

But evidently, the past has returned to haunt her…like it usually does.
A call – a video call, this time, because even Ghostface keeps up with the times – disturbs the peace that Sidney has built for herself, threatening her teenage daughter, Tatum (Isabel May). And if the name Tatum sounds familiar to you, that’s because she is named after Sidney’s childhood friend, played by Rose McGowan, from the first Scream film.

Along with legacy child Tatum, we are introduced to her friends Hannah Thurman (McKenna Grace) and Chloe Parker (Celeste O’Connor), as well as Lucas Bowden (Asa Germann) and her boyfriend, Ben Brown (Sam Rechner). Lucas and his mother, Jessica Bowden, also happen to live next door to Sidney’s family, the latter whom Sidney bonds with when it comes to discussing motherhood challenges.

Courtney Cox makes a savvy entrance, reprising her role as Gale Weathers – the only OG to appear in all of the films. And not to forget, the Meeks-Martin twins are also back – joining the Gale Weathers brigade as they rush to report on the gruesome murder mysteries.

The pacing is tight, with action unfolding beat by beat, as you try to figure out who among these characters could be behind the mask. This movie banks on the nostalgia and deconstructs horror tropes and clichés, and brings on the violence and bloodbath like never before. Expect tons of thrills and kills!
Terror has never been this fun.
