In Asia, the terms ‘Aunty’ and ‘Uncle’ are often used out of respect for the elderly.

Unlike Western nations which addresses people by their first names, in Asia, it’s the opposite.

However, these terms do come with their drawbacks too, especially when someone who is not exactly married or feels young is addressed in such fashion.

This 18-year-old from Etah, India, sadly was beaten up by a 40-year-old woman after addressing the latter with the term out of politeness.
