Since the release of the nominees for the 63rd Grammy Awards, celebrities, fans and music industry pundits have been buzzing about who’s been nominated and who’s not been nominated. Celebrities have lamented what they see as a snub from the Recording Academy, who is in charge of selecting the potential winners for the coveted award, while others have weighed in on the importance of getting a Grammy in the first place.

The latest to weigh in is Cardi B, whose megahit collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion was not mentioned in the list of nominations for the upcoming award show. The song debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 while topping the Billboard Digital Song Sales, Streaming Songs, Hot Rap Songs, and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs charts. It also broke the record for the largest opening streaming week for a song in US history. It won the ‘Favorite Song – Rap/Hip-Hop’ at this years American Music Awards and ‘Collaboration of 2020’ at the People’s Choice Awards and yet, still was not nominated for the Grammys.

Cardi B has since spoken up – explaining that it was her choice not to submit the song to the Recording Academy for consideration. On an Instagram Live session, the 28-year-old explained:

“I never pressed for a GRAMMY, but y’all not gonna take away something that I know I worked my a** off [for], that I deserve. If I was pressed for a GRAMMY I would’ve submitted ‘WAP’ for this year and I didn’t submit it. I don’t want to be submitted to award shows until I put out my album because I think my album is so good.

Cardi went on to say that, after having been working on her album for the past two years, she’s proud of what it’s come up to be. Without giving away too much, Cardi hinted that her songs will be “emotional”, with some that she recorded in quarantine. Since dropping “WAP” as the first single from her second, upcoming album, there is no doubt that the album is going to be a masterpiece – one that she may submit for the 2022 Grammys, instead. Fans can expect the album to be epic – her last album ‘Invasion of Privacy’ won her the ‘Best Rap Album’ at the 2019 Grammys.
