Oh, to be 21 and in love again. Thanks to Shawn Mendes, you can return to those feelings of discovery with his latest album, “Wonder.”
Officially out last Friday, maybe we all can agree that this is his most experimental work so far, as Shawn tries on different vibes throughout the 14-song record—though he ultimately returns to his well-known acoustic sound and the theme of love.

In his Netflix documentary “In Wonder,” released Nov. 23, Shawn shares some insight about recording the album and glimpses into his relationship with Camila Cabello. The 22-year-old singer also recently dished on Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp that the new album “it’s all about her,”
He even shared that Camila encouraged him a lot while finishing the album and she said, “Just stick with it because it feels like you. It gave us goosebumps the first conversation we had about it.” He added, “I did stick with it, and everything from that moment of just sticking with the original concept, it all just has been flowing and it never stopped flowing.”

“From the very beginning, I told her my thesis statement of what I wanted the album to be and it was the best thing I did because there’s always a point halfway through a project where you’re like, ‘This is garbage. This is the worst thing I’ve ever done. Everything is not—it does not sound good. I don’t know what I am doing,'” Shawn explained. “And that’s when you need that support to be like, ‘No, stick with the idea cause the idea is beautiful and it’s gonna turn out.”

He later added, “I probably would have been discouraged enough to move into a different world sonically if I didn’t have her kind of backing me the whole time. I’m thankful for that.” Can you imagine having a musician boyfriend who dedicated his whole new album to you? Ugh, only Bella Hadid and Alexa Chung can relate.
