Hold Up! The ”Enchanted” Sequel Is Really Happening & It’s Gonna Be On…

today17 December 2020

Background

This moment calls for a “Happy Working Song” — the long-awaited Enchanted sequel is finally happening. (Yes, for real this time.)

Deadline reports that Disenchanted will finally make its debut on Disney+ in lieu of a traditional theatrical release. The news was confirmed by the official Disney Twitter account on December 10 amid a thread of upcoming films and television series. Their announcement added that Amy Adams will be officially reprising her role as Giselle, the royal princess who found herself in an unfamiliar world (AKA Manhattan) during her first adventure.

The sequel to the 2007 film has been in development for quite some time now; in 2016, it was announced that Hairspray’s Adam Shankman was attached to direct, which was when the film’s title was also revealed.

As noted by Entertainment Weekly, Shankman previously explained that Disenchanted would take place a decade after the first movie, with Giselle questioning the decisions that she made when we first parted ways with her in the late aughts. “It’s about Giselle 10 years later going, ‘What is happily ever after?’” he said, also noting that the upcoming installment would contain more songs than the first, with the same amount of animation woven into the live-action sequences.

You’ll probably want to brush up on the first movie (not to mention all the songs) before diving back into Giselle’s mystical world. It’s yet to be determined if the original film’s other stars (namely Patrick Dempsey, Idina Menzel, and James Mardsen) will return for the upcoming sequel, but there’s sure to be plenty of magic headed our way with Amy Adams back in her original role.
