Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza binti Tarudin is one of the most recognised and lauded celebrities in Malaysia. With over 300 awards and accolades (both local and international) to her name since the start of her career in 1995, it’s no wonder she’s been dubbed the “Voice of Asia”, with her talent gaining her recognition as “Asia’s Celine Dion”. To top it off, the singers humble and down-to-earth demeanour has only further cemented her place in the hearts of Malaysians and global fans. She’s active on social media, often reviewing and supporting local businesses on her social media to help promote these businesses to her 8 million followers on Instagram. But, of course, with the fame and recognition attached to her name and person, Nurhaliza’s likeness has been misused by people looking to earn a quick buck. More recently, Nurhaliza has taken to calling out these “scammers”.
“I really do not have a problem with supporting anyone’s business and I know in the current situation that everyone is affected but if you abuse, cheat people and use my picture [to do this], this is an unacceptable act.”

In two separate posts uploaded onto her personal Instagram account, Nurhaliza first brought up the subject of people using her likeness to sell products.
“Who is this using my name and picture, creating an account and trying to scam people? This account tries to scam people, offering cash and providing ways and conditions to get the money. Do not take advantage of others by using my name and picture, this not only slanderous but also damages my reputation.”
She went on to ask her followers to report such accounts posing as her.
“I assert that this is not my account and whoever that has created this account, cheated and deceived people, I hope you stop this act. In this day and age, we all have to be aware so as not to be deceived by scammers like these.”
Nurhaliza also issued a stern warning, stating:
“To the owner of this account, please delete your account or we will have to take strict action.”
