Daft Punk Are Over After 28 Years, But, These 4 Hits Will Live Forever

today24 February 2021

Background

In an 8-minute video titled “Epilogue”,  taken from their 2006 film ‘Electroma’, French electronic music duo Daft Punk has officially announced their retirement. Dressed in their iconic robot costumes, the duo is seen bidding each other farewell in the desert.

After having formed way back in 1993, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo have won over 13 different awards ranging from “Best Electronic/Dance Album” and “Best Dance Recording” at the 2009 Grammys to “Best Original Score” for their ‘Tron: Legacy’ film soundtrack. The duo defined the French house movement while combining elements of house music with funk, techno, disco, rock and synthpop over the years. Although they may be more easily recognised by their robot outfits that became their trademark following the 2001 release of ‘Discovery’, their lesser-known credits include co-production on several tracks from Kanye West’s ‘Yeezus’ (‘On Sight’, ‘Black Skinhead’, and ‘I Am a God’), as well as their, collaboration with The Weeknd on ‘Starboy’ and ‘I Feel It Coming’.

But what made Daft Punk the icons they are today? Well, by celebrating some of their biggest hits in their 28 years of music!

There’s this 2001 (it’s been 20 years!!!) banger that we’d still heard in clubs today (if there was no pandemic), “Harder Better Faster Stronger”.

As well as this groovy track that made you “lose yourself to dance” at some point in 2013:

I mean, who could forget vibing to:

“She’s up all night to the sun / I’m up all night to get some / She’s up all night for good fun / I’m up all night to get lucky,”

I guess we’ll just have to hope that Daft Punk will be back “one more time” with a song as quintessentially theirs as this one:

Ooof, talk about nostalgic! Here’s to hoping they pop up again in the near future!
