Disney+ Restricts Access For “Negative Depictions” In Problematic Films Like Dumbo And Peter Pan

today11 March 2021

Background

Disney is taking steps forward to be more conscious and taking a stand against offensive content in the past to protect young children. Following the launch of Disney’s “Stories Matter” initiative, Disney+ has removed films like Peter Pan and Dumbo from its children’s accounts. However, do not fret the movies are only restricted for children under the age of 7 and not removed and cancelled completely by the streaming site.

Rather, Disney+ is taking steps to shield young children from offensive content, and as such, kids profile users, especially children seven years of age and younger, will no longer be able to stream these films down below which contain characters that we would now consider insensitive.

As the Disney+ Kids Profile Help Center explains, “Titles with a content advisory notice related to negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures have been excluded” from the children’s profile library.

Down below are the few films that have garnered a lot of attention for their removal from the kid’s accounts, with an attached disclaimer:

The Aristocats
Dumbo
Peter Pan
Swiss Family Robinson
