Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, will be based in Los Angeles and is tasked to report to Universal Music Group Chairman and Chief Executive Sir Lucian Grainge and Def Jam interim Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Harleston.

Snoop himself is an award-winning artist, with 19 studio albums and over 30 million albums sold worldwide.

It’s not the first time a rapper took on the executive role at Def Jam. Back in 2014, Jay-Z was named President and CEO of the iconic label, but left after three years.

Def Jam also has its wings in South East Asia. Among artists that are a part of the label in the Asian region would include Daboyway (Thailand), Yung Raja (Singapore), Fariz Jabba (Singapore), Alif (Singapore), A. Nakaya (Indonesia), and Malaysia’s very own Joe Flizzow.

“I’m truly honoured to be part of Def Jam South East Asia. After 20 years as an independent artiste, working my way up, I’ve finally joined the ‘big boys’ in a major music label. We’ve got a lot of work to do, and we’ll all do our best. And best of all, my fellow label artistes are all my old friends,” Joe said.
