Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has warned that Malaysians may only be able to enjoy subsidised RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre for another one to two months if tensions surrounding the ongoing conflict involving Iran continue to escalate.
At present, Malaysian-registered vehicles are able to purchase subsidised RON95 at RM1.99 per litre. Meanwhile, vehicles registered outside Malaysia are charged RM2.67 per litre for the unsubsidised fuel, which reflects a recent increase of 10 sen.
Speaking to reporters, Anwar explained that the government can only sustain the current subsidised price for a limited period under the current circumstances.
