Billie and Finneas have done it again with their heart-wrenching ballad for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie film. Take a closer look at the lyrics and you’ll be astounded by just how accurate and poignant this song is to how Barbie feels in the film when she eventually realizes that the world she lives in may be fantastic, but it’s all plastic.
Based on her interview with Zane Lowe, Billie explains that this song is “exactly how I feel” without even realizing it during the writing process.
The music video, directed by Billie herself, features her sitting at a desk as she fiddles with tiny Barbie clothes. And here’s an Easter Egg — the clothes Billie are toying with are from her previous music videos, making the video that much more poignant and deeper. And as she does so, the rain comes pouring down and blows her the significant clothes all over the places.
