French screen legend Brigitte Bardot, who rose to fame as an icon of sexual freedom in the 1950s and 1960s before leaving acting to focus on animal welfare, has died at the age of 91, her foundation announced on Sunday.
She had been hospitalised in October and previously dismissed false reports of her death, while details of when and where she died were not disclosed.
