
Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom have officially recognised the State of Palestine, their respective prime ministers — Mark Carney, Anthony Albanese, and Keir Starmer — announced on Sunday.
The three nations have now joined other major Western nations in increasing pressure on Israel to end the war in Gaza.
“Canada recognizes the State of Palestine and offers our partnership in building the promise of a peaceful future for both the State of Palestine and the State of Israel,” Carney wrote on the social media platform X.
The historic shift came as other countries also said they recognized a Palestinian state ahead of the UN General Assembly opening Monday in New York, which is due to be dominated by the issue of a Palestinian state.
