Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has defended his close ties with the likes of China and the US, saying he always has the nation’s interest in mind.
Anwar said he was aware of the criticisms against him being friendly with these nations, but he “did not mind” it, Bernama reported.
“Because my priority is Malaysia’s growth and standing. To succeed economically, we must maintain friendships with all,” he was quoted as saying at a meet-and-greet session with Sabah industry associations in Kota Kinabalu tonight.
Present were caretaker Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor, investment, trade and industry minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz and communications minister Fahmi Fadzil.
Anwar said the recent 47th Asean Summit demonstrated Malaysia’s ability to bring together 11 member states and major global economic powers.
