When Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim quoted the Chinese proverb “居安思危, 思则有备, 有备无患” during his Budget 2026 speech, a lot of Malaysians were left scratching their heads, wondering what exactly it meant.

In simple terms, the phrase translates to, “When times are peaceful, think of danger. When you are mindful of danger, you will be prepared. When you are prepared, you will be safe.”

Or if you put it in casual everyday English, it basically means, “Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready.”

Anwar wasn’t quoting it just to sound deep.
