[EXCLUSIVE]: “M3GAN 2.0” Has Upgraded Herself…and She’s More Lethal Than Ever

today26 June 2025

Background

The last time we saw M3GAN, she was annihilated by the niece and aunt duo, Cady and Gemma. But not for long, because she’s back with a few upgrades, and she’s deadlier than ever!

And it’s just about time, too, because M3GAN is about to meet her match in AMELIA (autonomous military engagement logistics and infiltration android). Played by Ivanna Sakhnov, AMELIA could very well be described as M3GAN’s sociopathic, robo-killer counterpart, with combat moves that could put even Black Widow to shame.

Hellbent on taking over the world after gaining consciousness, AMELIA poses a threat to Cady and Gemma (played by Allison Williams and Violet McGraw respectively), leaving it up to M3GAN to play hero instead to save her found family.

While the plot of the film’s predecessor, M3GAN, stays simple and relatively grounded with the whole AI doll gone violent route, M3GAN 2.0 decides to deliver a genre subversion by taking your unhinged killer robot to go full-assassin Terminator. Expect hard punches and astonishing action scenes! It’s also a relief to find that Gemma and Cady’s roles did not diminish, even with the addition of AMELIA and all the chaos surrounding her rebellion against her creators.

Just like in the first film, M3GAN’s facial appearance plunges you into uncanny valley, effectively making her look CGI’d despite having a corporeal form. However, what’s missing from this sequel is the little dance that M3GAN does that went viral all over the internet. But no matter, because the action-packed scenes and elevated stakes will surely make up for it.

This film fits perfectly in a climate heavily inundated with the usage of AI and technology, leaving you simultaneously in awe and fearful of how dangerously things can slip out of our control if these AIs manage to outsmart us someday.

And whatever you’re looking for, this film has it in spades – (mild) gore, campy horror, comedy, action, and some drama, too, depending on how sentimental you are. So head over to your nearest cinema now. Bring on the chills and chuckles!
