You will be welcomed to the third Sonic film adventure with bright, stunning visuals and kid-friendly humour. This third outing maintains the same astounding quality as its predecessors, and is reminiscent of The Super Mario Bros. Movie – funny, fluid animation and vivid visual work, and everything else that makes a video game fun and immersive.
This time around, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles face the responsibility of stopping another one of their kind – Shadow the Hedgehog – who is a former military experiment that has escaped containment. The trio is forced to team up with Dr. Robotnik, who in turn, reunites with his long-lost grandfather…
Speaking of which, Jim Carrey brings his A game with preposterous humour in his dual role as both Dr. Ivo Robotnik and Gerald Robotnik, the grandfather and grandson duo. Expect endless hilarious shenanigans when the two are on-screen!
On the other hand, Keanu Reeves gives a solid performance as the enigmatic, tragic character Shadow who was created via a sinister secret government program called Project Shadow. Ben Schwartz also deserves praise for his consistent performance as Sonic, whose character goes through some growth in this second sequel.
But like the Sonic predecessor films, the heart of the movie is family and friendships, and the love that these hedgehogs have for one another – Sonic, Knuckles, Tails – as well as their family Tom and Maddie. The stakes are higher this time around, and may bring a tear (or two) to your eye. And hey, the movie also wraps up under two hours, which is perfect for children with low attention span!
So come on and watch the adventure unfold at your nearest cinema!
