Former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad was on Tuesday, bestowed the honour of becoming the first ever national Malaysian leader to officially make a virtual mark in the metaverse.
This follows a ground-breaking move by enterprising Malaysian start-up, Uniquepro Meta Holdings Sdn Bhd to conceptualise and debut the company’s first Metaverse Virtual Gallery which will feature Tun Dr. Mahathir’s Legacy. This trailblazing development was commemorated today in a soft launch ceremony at the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, attended by Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad himself and his consort, Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah.
“Here today, we have the opportunity to witness another technological development brought about by Metaverse, which is linking the digital world that exists in parallel with the real world and allows real-time interactions in the VR (Virtual Reality) based environment. Given all these new achievements and exploration by our youths, I am hopeful and encouraged that the future of our nation is in good and capable hands”.
The initiation of the Metaverse Virtual Gallery is aimed at establishing and realising a platform where art and technology are seamlessly intertwined to empower an up-and- coming generation of artists to unleash their true potential using the latest in cutting-edge technology. It will also serve as an instantly-accessible intercultural communications platform that transcends barriers and limitations including geographical location, time and language.
As such, the implementation of the Metaverse Virtual Gallery will be accessible to people across the globe in a new era of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technology, showcasing and preserving memorable and historical moments in the life and times of Tun Dr. Mahathir and Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah, and with its upcoming icons of
some other celebrities and Negarawan.
In this regard, besides proudly hosting the Malaysian banner on the world map, the gallery will also serve as an educational platform which will allow existing and future generations of Malaysians to experience pivotal and important historical moments in their country’s history as they never did before.
Ultimately, the gallery will be updated in various stages, using a collection of fresh and past images of Tun Dr. Mahathir and Tun Dr. Siti, including limited-edition artwork and designs by renowned local artists. The initiative will also see the implementation of a design and artwork competition in honour of “Iconic & Inspiring Individuals” in Malaysia”.
“While the metaverse is a relatively new concept, it has nonetheless led to the creation of a diverse range of technological advancements which is shaping the future in real-time. Its implications in our day-to-day life are just beginning to be seen, while the possibilities for future engagement with such technology and beyond are only limited by our imagination. In fact, when we look at market projections, the global metaverse development value is seeing an undisputed increase and is expected to reach USD 1 Trillion by 2030,” said Martin Chew, Project Chairman of Uniquepro Meta Holdings Sdn Bhd.
“Therefore, there is no better time to engage in the metaverse than the present. There is an old Chinese proverb that says that the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago; while the second-best time is now. Going by this analogy, what we hope to do is plant the seed that will hopefully evolve to become a flourishing rainforest of endless possibilities that will extend beyond this current generation.”
“This led to the development of UNIQ META World Gallery & NFT this year, and its maiden project in the form of “Legacy for Tun Dr. Mahathir” Metaverse Virtual Gallery. What better way is there to initiate our engagement in the metaverse than by honouring the father of Malaysia’s modernisation himself. Much like the metaverse, his legacy has left an indelible positive mark in the development of our beloved country, and we wanted to take this opportunity to honour him, and inspire a new generation of artists through the metaverse,” he explained.
Besides launching the Metaverse Virtual Gallery, today’s ceremony also witnessed the launch of a creative design competition and its free scholarship programme, as well as the signing of partnership agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) between Uniquepro Meta Holdings with technology giant Huawei and the Malacca Museum. These MOU signings will potentially mark its upcoming journey towards the Metaverse Virtual Museum and expansion of its UNIQ META World Gallery & NFT to
feature other iconic individuals & Negarawan.
