Mental health is important guys!
Parents own the responsibility of raising their children to be healthy individuals – not just physically, but mentally and spiritually too. Parents are meant to be a child safety net, their comfort zone, people they can go to and rely on. Unfortunately, this seems to not be the case as netizens on Twitter have taken to sharing their personal experiences while growing up.
The conversation started when Twitter user @SabrinaShuhaim1 shared screenshots from TikTok about a boy, who is verbally abused by his father every time they go out together on a family trip.
Sedih baca komen dekat tiktok ni. Memang normal things yang jadi dekat ramai anak anak.
Mak ayah, marah anak tak jadi masalah. Tapi biar bertempat dan ada cara nak marah. pic.twitter.com/X31AbxciYc

Although the conversation originally started on TikTok, it spread like wildfire on Twitter, where many users shared their own stories and thoughts on this problem.
This user said “Every time during dinner my dad will erupt, in front of the food”
setiap kali makan malam ayah aku mengamok , depan rezeki kot hm

This user explained how they envy those who are comfortable with their parents.
i am never comfortable telling stories to my parents….. makes me adore and envy of those people who can talk for hours every time they call their parents https://t.co/ALg8QOGQ72

This user shared the story of a situation their friend was going through. They said:
“A friend of PMed me asking to find a house to rent around his housing area. Reason: To move out of the family house. Couldn’t stand the mental torture. His life mission: To get married fast because he wants to start a new family, new culture. Aren’t you sad? Your own child has a goal to not be a toxic parent like you”
Ada kawan pm aku mntk carikan rumah sewa area rumah dia.
Alasan : Nk pindah keluar dari rmh family. Tak tahan kne torture mental. Misi hidup dia : Nk kahwin cpt2 sbb nk start family baru, culture baru.
Tak sedih ke? Anak sendiri ada azam utk taknak jadi parents toxic mcm hang https://t.co/VnQX2STtlY

They continued to share that it wasn’t a new occurrence and these situations have happened at least two or three times. From that tweet, Twitter user @sfqomhz shared her 2 cents on having children as a parent.
This is why having children, to me, is selfish. You do it to fulfil YOUR desire to become a parent. So as a parent, YOU owe your child a good life. Not vice versa.
Adult mental health is shaped by our childhood. If we understood this, we’d be careful with children’s souls. https://t.co/2mVbANBQZb

She continues in the thread, justifying her opinions on parenting. She even backed up her points with factual studies.
Now that there is growing awareness of generational trauma, younger generations are trying their best to avoid transmission of it onto their own children.
Anda mampu mengubahnya.

NST states that Datuk Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff, Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development reported that last year there were a total of 3,872 child abuse cases registered, lower than previous years. Unfortunately, there is also a high chance that most cases of abuse go unreported. With these stories that have been openly shared on social media, it highlights the importance of open communication between family members and the impact of words on mental health.
