During these difficult times, the last thing you want to happen to is to be cheated of your hard-earned money. Especially so when the product you intend to purchase is expensive. Such is the case as shared on Twitter by @InjangNation, which highlights how a student was cheated after attempting to purchase a laptop for their online classes.

“SCAM ALERT: There’s a student who got cheated of RM 1,700 when trying to buy a laptop for their online classes (PDPR) from IG and the number below. Btw, I just found out you can search for the phone number. It would be convenient before you want to do any online transaction after this.”
He refers to the last photo in the posting, where you can search for report records for a certain phone number.
The search results indicated that there were 8 police reports issued against the number in question, and that the number was searched for 84 times in the Commercial Crime Investigation Department. The chat conversation between the victim and seller shows that the seller ghosted him after the money was transferred.
According to the screenshot, the victim demanded a refund and stated that they would make a police report. Unfortunately, his threats fell on deaf ears. Netizens were furious to see scammers triumph over victims especially during a pandemic when many are struggling. This netizen urged others to only purchase products from secure platforms.
“What a pity, especially [to scam others] during these difficult times. Living isn’t safe.”
The victim responded to @InjangNation following the viral tweet.
“I’m the one who got scammed. I really hope I can get the money back. I wanted to use it to study but now other things have happened. Until now I haven’t gotten it back. Thank you so much, hope you can make it viral so others don’t face the same fate.”
We urge Malaysians to always purchase products from trusted platforms. Always double-check and verify all sellers and items before making payments. Your hard-earned money should never be stolen from you.
