Govt mulls setting up national children’s commission, says Azalina

The government is considering a proposal to establish a national children’s commission to strengthen the protection of children’s rights in Malaysia, said law and institutional reform minister Azalina Othman Said.

She said the government is studying the proposal by Rodziah Ismail (PH-Ampang) in terms of the commission’s mandate, structure, legal framework and financial implications.

Azalina said this is to ensure it did not overlap with existing institutions, including the children’s commissioner under the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam).
