
Famed Penang mamak institution Hameediyah Restaurant is currently being investigated by the authorities after a receipt from one of their customers went viral earlier this week.
The receipt, uploaded onto Facebook, had shown the total bill as RM106.60, and that the customer was charged RM100 for two fresh sotong goreng.
According to NST, the restaurant has been served a Goods Information Verification Notice by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP), which the proprietors have until 26 November to reply.
“If the operator fails to respond, action can be taken under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2021,” said the ministry’s director Mohd Ridzuan Ab Ghapar.
It was also reported that several KPDNHEP officers visited Hameediyah Restaurant Wednesday to record testimonies.
