The Kuala Terengganu High Court has dismissed a lawsuit brought by four animal activists against the Besut district council and the Terengganu government over the shooting of a stray dog known as Kopi.
Lawyer Adam Luqman Amdan, who represented the council, said the decision was delivered by judicial commissioner Yusrin Faidz Yusoff during online proceedings.
The court ruled that the plaintiffs lacked locus standi, noting that none of them were Besut residents and that they failed to show a “real and genuine interest in the matter”.
It also found that the declarations sought, including claims that the shooting breached the Animal Welfare Act 2015, amounted to an attempt to enforce criminal law through civil proceedings.
