
Kuala Lumpur police have reclassified the death of a foreign national at a prominent hotel in the capital last month as a murder.
“Further investigations are being carried out,” Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said in a statement.
The case was previously classified as a sudden death.
The victim, whom media reports had linked to controversial singer Namewee, was found dead at a hotel in the capital on Oct 22.
While police did not name anyone in its statement, media reports had previously identified the victim as Hsieh Yu-hsin, a Taiwanese influencer.
Hsieh, also known as Iris, according to Sin Chew Daily, had reportedly met with Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, at the hotel to discuss filming a video together.
The report later stated that Wee had found her dead in the bathtub.
