PETALING JAYA:

Maimunah Sharif’s tenure as Kuala Lumpur mayor has been shortened, with her term ending tomorrow instead of Aug 16 next year.

Chief secretary Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the decision, approved by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim, will allow Maimunah to be appointed to a major government-linked company responsible for developing a new landmark project in the capital.

“This decision takes into account the needs (of the GLC), as well as her expertise and experience in sustainable urban planning, particularly during her leadership at UN-Habitat as an executive director,” he said.

“Maimunah has set high standards during her tenure leading Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), enhancing its service delivery based on the principles of integrity, efficiency, and effectiveness.”
