With just one movie, Lady Gaga has made history at this year’s Oscars for her role in ‘A Star Is Born’.
Lady Gaga has become the first woman – and only the second person ever – to win an Oscar, Grammy, BAFTA and Golden Globe in a single year.
The singer and actress picked up the Best Original Song Oscar for ‘Shallow’, the stand-out track from A Star Is Born movie. She collected her award for ‘Shallow’ alongside co-writers Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt. During an emotional acceptance speech, Lady Gaga thanked her co-star Bradley Cooper for “believing in us”, saying: “There is not a single person on the planet that could sing this song but you.”Gaga is the also the first person ever to be nominated for both Best Actress and Best Original Song in the same year.’Shallow’ picked up Best Film Music at the BAFTAs, Best Original Song at the Golden Globes and two awards at the Grammys – Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Song Written for Visual Media.
Not too shabby, at all huh? She earlier sobbed on the microphone as she accepted her first Oscar, with fellow writers Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt. The star was emotional as she thanked the Academy and her family, including her sister who she called her ‘soulmate’. Speaking to Bradley Cooper, Gaga said: ‘Bradley, there is not a single person on this planet that I could have sang this song with you. Thank you for believing in us.’ She then spoke to fans at home, saying: ‘This is hard work, I’ve worked hard for a long time, it’s not about winning. What it’s about is not giving up. If you have a dream, don’t give up.
In accepting her award, Lady Gaga encouraged youngsters watching the show to follow their dreams and stick with it.
“If you are at home and you’re sitting on your couch and you are watching this right now, all I have to say is that this is hard work,” she said. “I have worked hard for a long time and it’s not about, you know, winning, but what it’s about is not giving up. If you have a dream, fight for it. If there’s a discipline for passion, and it’s not about how many times you get rejected or you fall down or you’re beaten up. It’s about how many times you stand up and are brave and you keep on going.”
“Shallow” earned the Golden Globe Award last month for Best Original Song as well as two Grammy nominations, winning the Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media. Lady Gaga has sold more than 27 million albums and 146 million singles, and regarded as one of the bestselling music artists in history. She has nine Grammys, a BAFTA Award and now an Oscar will be added on the shelf.
Congratulations Lady Gaga!
