PETALING JAYA:

A Malaysian man was arrested by Singaporean authorities at the Tuas Second Link yesterday for allegedly attempting to smuggle over 18,400 vapes and 1,400 related components using a lorry.

Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority said this was the largest bust of vape smuggling via land checkpoints since the city-state banned the devices on Sept 1.

The lorry was made to undergo a thorough check when it arrived at the checkpoint after the authorities conducted a risk evaluation of the vehicle.

Officers then found the vapes hidden in the lorry, which was meant to be ferrying “components for motorised outdoor blinds”.

“The seized items and the suspect have been handed over to the Health Sciences Authority for further investigation,” Bernama quoted  it as saying.
