A man in Kuala Lumpur learned the hard way that littering can come with a hefty price tag.
According to authorities, the man was fined RM1,500 and ordered to complete four hours of community service after he was caught throwing a burger wrapper in public.
The case was heard at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court, where the offence fell under Section 77A(1) of the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act 2007 (Act 672).
Not the only one
The incident wasn’t an isolated case either.
Two other individuals were reportedly punished with the same penalty after they were caught littering cigarette butts in public areas around Bukit Bintang and KLCC during an enforcement operation.
