The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission’s (MCMC) request to remove certain Twitter posts that were criticising the government has been rejected by Twitter.
A Twitter user posted yesterday that he had received an email from Twitter informing him that MCMC has requested for the removal of his Tweets as it violated Malaysia’s law.
His two posts that were requested to be taken down were related to the response of ministers Noh Omar and Rina Harun towards the devastating flood over the weekend.
Despite this, the email from Twitter wrote, “We have not taken any action on the reported content at this time as a result of this request,” adding that it is part of their policy to inform users when it receives a legal request from a government agency to remove content from an account.
Many other Twitter users have come forward, saying that they have been receiving the same email from Twitter, via MCMC’s request.
Batu Kawan MP, Kasthuri Patto posted a Tweet on the issue….
