The Malaysian underground music scene has always been a space for resistance, community, and raw, unfiltered expression. Now, one of its fiercest black metal bands, Mirthless, is using their platform for something beyond sonic chaos—they’re (once again) stepping up when it counts.
In response to the Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion on 1 April, which displaced over 500 people, injured 145, and reduced 237 homes to rubble, Mirthless has announced that 100% of their Bandcamp proceeds from 3–10 April will go toward grassroots relief efforts aiding affected families. The catastrophe, which struck during Eid week, has left many victims stranded in halls and tents, struggling with uncertainty about their future.
“This is not charity. It’s solidarity.”
