Tom Cruise has done it again!

Taking place after the events of Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Dead Reckoning Part One brings us on an adventure as Ethan Hunt and his team of fellow agents attempt to save the world from a sentient artificial intelligence that wields the power to bring about a deadly, global war. And holding the fates of over 7 billion people, are two physical keys.

Enter Grace — tough, severe, and sly — played by Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger). A professional pickpocket with nimble fingers, she is tasked with performing the sleight of hand in order to swipe the key. Aside from Grace, the fellow women in the film shine in their roles, with Atwell leading the way as a destructive force of nature.

Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2) is a standout as Paris, a French assassin. She packs a (literal) punch with her body language and deadly moves, all the while barely saying a single word. You feel her rage and her laser-focus in achieving her goal — which is to have Ethan eliminated. And not to forget Vanessa Kirby (Pieces of a Woman) who holds her own as she reprises her role as Alanna, who wants the keys for her own set of agenda.

And while most leading men of the action genre come off all buffy and gruffy, Ethan is a breath of fresh air with his heart of gold and the way he prioritizes everyone else’s lives above his own. And not to mention Tom Cruise looks so good performing his own mind-blowing stunts!

The camerawork in this film is phenomenal as proven in the trailers, and at times are purposefully disorienting — and it works, adding to the stakes and terror of the action scenes.
