Hang kata aurat harus dijaga, hang tengok filem blue apa cerita?” – is the first line to greet you when you listen to the debut track from the unapologetic Kedah-core punk band, Terrer.

According to NME, ‘Hang Loklaq’ which dropped on Sunday (12 Dec) is a statement of pushback against religious hypocrisy as explained by frontman, Faiq Syazwan Kuhiri.

“It’s colloquial, I spent my [secondary school] years in [the northern state of] Kedah and we would use it whenever someone was acting perverted, weird or kurang siuman [mentally unwell].

“So that’s how we use the word in our song. It is satire and playful humour but also a statement of pushback against religious hypocrisy,” Faiq said to NME.

What’s more interesting is that the debut track is featured in Terrer’s upcoming EP, Kaum Lelaki which explores “the experience of what it’s like to be a Malay man in our society today”.
