
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) says political commentator Murray Hunter was arrested in Bangkok last month after failing to cooperate with Thai authorities in an investigation.
MCMC said it lodged police reports in Malaysia and Thailand in relation to Hunter’s publications concerning Malaysian institutions, including MCMC, in April and June of last year.
A civil suit was also filed in Malaysia, with the cause papers served on him in Thailand.
In a statement, MCMC said it understood that Hunter’s arrest at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok on Sept 29 was linked to his non-compliance with summonses issued by the Thai authorities to assist in their investigation.
