Najib’s Lawyer Demands Removal of ‘Man on the Run’ Doc
Netflix’s Man on the Run documentary recently made its way to the streaming platform on 5 January 2024. It tells the story of the 1MDB scandal, which resulted with the downfall of then prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Sub judice and contemptuous
But amid the ongoing 1MDB trial in real life, Najib’s lead counsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, has called the documentary sub judice, saying it amounts to contempt of court.
Additionally, Najib instructed Shafee to file a contempt proceeding against former Attorney-General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas, as well as Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown for their statements in the documentary.
“The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Home Ministry have the authority to take it (the documentary) off the air,” Shafee said.
