Talk about passion and endurance!
Dev Patel’s directorial debut Monkey Man, which premiered at the South by Southwest 2024, has been coined by some as “South Asian John Wick” with its intense scenes and brutal fighting.
A few weeks before shooting, Patel suffered his first setback: a broken foot.
“A stunt man stamped on my foot and broke it. So that was a bit of a problem. But we got through that and carried on,” Patel said on the red carpet before the premiere.
This was followed by a torn shoulder, and then a broken hand during a bathroom fight scene.
True to the brutalities of Patel’s injuries, the premise of the film involves Kid (Patel) who works in an underground fight club, and is bent on exacting revenge against a group of corrupt leaders who stole everything from him.
The movie directed and starring Patel and produced by Peele has a release date of April 5, 2024. So look out for it!
